Charging System Control
The SMEC monitors battery voltage and charging system voltage. If a circuit fails. The SMEC will enter "Limp-In" mode. The SMEC will turn on the "CHECK ENGINE" light, and will substitute a value in place of the failed value. The following conditions will cause the SMEC to enter the "Limp-In" mode:
- Battery Voltage Too Low If battery voltage signal drops below 4 volts after engine has run for at least one minute. The SMEC will cause the charging system to operate at a fixed rate and a fault code will be stored.
- Battery Voltage Too High If battery voltage exceeds the predetermined control voltage by one volt, a fault code will be stored and the "CHECK ENGINE" light will be lit.
