Ignition Control
The SMEC controls all aspects of ignition system, including spark advance, ignition dwell, and spark timing. During cranking, timing is advanced by the SMEC to provide quick efficient start. During running mode, the SMEC advances and retards ignition timing in accordance with information on coolant temperature, engine RPM, and engine load.
Engine speed and crankshaft position information is received from the distributor. This information is used by the SMEC to control fuel injection, ignition timing, and idle speed. Engine speed and crankshaft position are also used to synchronize the fuel injection timing to ignition timing.
