TEST 35A - Repairing Temperature Gauge Problem

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .
NOTE: Ensure engine cooling system is operating properly.
  1. If cooling system not operating properly, repair cooling system as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If cooling system is operating properly, stop actuator test using DRB-II. Using DRB-II, read engine temperature sensor voltage. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 5).
  2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, disconnect engine temperature sensor connector. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Connect a jumper wire between Violet/Yellow wire of engine temperature sensor connector and ground. Using DRB-II, read engine temperature sensor voltage.
  3. If voltage is less than one volt, replace engine temperature sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If voltage is more than one volt, gain access to body controller. Body controller is located under left side of instrument panel. Connect a jumper wire between terminal No. 24 (Violet/Yellow wire) of body controller Natural connector and ground.
  4. If DRB-II displays less than one volt, repair open Violet/Yellow wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If DRB-II displays more than one volt, disconnect body controller Natural connector. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary and replace body controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS .
  5. If voltage is less than 10 volts in step 1), disconnect engine temperature sensor connector. Using DRB-II, read engine temperature sensor voltage. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace engine temperature sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If voltage is less than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  6. Disconnect body controller Blue connector. Body controller is located under left side of instrument panel. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode.
  7. Probe terminal No. 6 (Dark Blue/White wire) of body controller Blue connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode.
  8. Probe Violet/Yellow wire of temperature sensor connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace body controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Violet/Yellow wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS .
