TEST 5B - Diagnosing Key In Ignition Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRB-II, read key-in-ignition switch status. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, go to step 5). If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect key-in-ignition connector. See Fig 1. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary.

  2. Connect a jumper wire between terminals No. 1 (Light Blue wire) and No. 2 (Black wires) of key-in-ignition connector. Ensure driver's door is open. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace key in ignition switch. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect jumper wire.
  3. Connect a jumper wire between terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire) and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect jumper wire. Access body controller. Body controller is located under left side of instrument panel.
  4. Connect jumper wire between terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire) at wiring harness side of body controller Blue connector and ground. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, repair open Light Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace body controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS .
  5. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED in step 1), ensure left front door is open. remove key from ignition switch. If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT OPEN, retest system. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT OPEN, disconnect key-in-ignition connector. See Fig 1. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary.
  6. If DRB-II does not display CIRCUIT CLOSED, replace key in ignition switch. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If DRB-II displays CIRCUIT CLOSED, disconnect body controller Blue connector. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary.
  7. Place DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Probe terminal No. 2 (Light Blue wire) of body controller Blue connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace body controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST - VERIFICATION OF REPAIRS .
