Test 24A - Diagnosing Wiper Problem During Wash Cycle

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. Perform TEST VER - 1A after each repair.
  1. If wipers do not operate in intermittent mode, go to TEST 22A. If wipers operate in intermittent mode, gain access to body controller. Body controller is located under left side of instrument panel.
  2. Using DRB-II in voltmeter mode, backprobe washer pump switch sense circuit at Blue body controller connector terminal No. 10 (Brown wire). With probe connected, engage washers. If voltage is more than 10 volts while engaging switch, replace body controller.
  3. If voltage is less than 10 volts while engaging switch, gain access to multifunction switch connector. Backprobe switched ignition feed circuit at multifunction switch connector terminal No. 3 (Brown wire).
  4. With probe connected, engage washers. If voltage is more than 10 volts while engaging switch, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts while engaging switch, replace multifunction switch.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Disconnect Blue body controller connector. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance of washer pump switched ignition feed circuit (Brown wire) between Blue body controller connector terminal No. 10 and multifunction switch connector terminal No. 3.
  6. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace body controller.
