Test 8C - Repairing Short To Ground In Pod Switch Control Circuits

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. Perform TEST VER - 1A after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Move dimmer switch to center of slide. If a problem exists with Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) illumination only, replace EIC.
  2. If a problem exists with Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) illumination only, replace MIC. If no problem with MIC illumination exists, disconnect Blue body controller connector. Body controller is located under left side of instrument panel.
  3. Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance of day bright-ness sense circuit at Blue body controller connector terminal No. 6 (Yellow/Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace body controller.
  4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect Black left pod switch connector. Measure resistance of day brightness sense circuit at Blue body controller connector terminal No. 6 (Yellow/Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace left pod switch. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire.
