Test 36B - Repairing Shorts In Liftgate Control Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. Perform TEST VER - 1A after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position with engine off. Set parking brake. Place transmission gear selector in Drive. Press liftgate switch. If liftgate solenoid did not actuate, liftgate system is functioning properly.
  2. If liftgate solenoid actuated, disconnect Blue body controller connector. Body controller is located under left side of instrument panel. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Press liftgate switch. If liftgate solenoid actuated, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Blue wire between Blue body controller connector and liftgate switch.
  3. If liftgate solenoid did not actuate and vehicle is not equipped with an A-604/41TE transaxle, go to appropriate G - TESTS W/ CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section for speed sensor testing. If liftgate solenoid did not actuate and vehicle is equipped with an A-604/41TE transaxle, reconnect Blue body controller connector.
  4. Using DRB-II, read park/neutral switch position. If DRB-II does not display P/N POSITION: P/N, replace body controller. If DRB-II displays P/N POSITION: P/N, disconnect park/neutral position switch at transaxle.
  5. Using DRB-II, read park/neutral switch position. If DRB-II does not display P/N POSITION: P/N, replace park/neutral position switch. If DRB-II displays P/N POSITION: P/N, turn ignition off.
  6. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Using DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance of park/neutral switch sense circuit at PCM connector terminal No. 30 (wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/Yellow wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace PCM.
