Test 31A - Wiper Motor High Speed Operation
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at end of article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Connector is located on upper part of steering column, behind trim cover. Connect jumper wire between wiper switch mode sense circuit (Dark Green/Red wire) and fused ignition feed circuit (Dark Blue wire) on multifunction switch connector terminals.
- Turn ignition on. If wipers operate properly in high speed mode, replace multifunction switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If wipers do not operate properly in high speed mode, remove jumper wire and reconnect multifunction switch. With wiper switch still in HIGH speed mode, check if wipers are operating in LOW speed mode. If wipers are not operating in low speed mode, replace body controller module. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.NOTE: The BCM must be connected while performing step 4). Failure to do so may lead to incorrect circuit/system diagnosis.
- If wipers are operating in low speed mode, access Body Controller Module (BCM). Module is located behind right kick panel. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, backprobe BCM Bone connector terminal No. 18, high/low relay control circuit (Violet wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If voltage is less than 10 volts, remove high/low wiper motor relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). PDC is located on left front fender apron. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on high/low relay connector control circuit (Violet wire). If voltage is less than 0.2 volt, repair open circuit in Violet wire between relay and BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If voltage is more than 0.2 volt, use DRB-II in voltmeter mode to check voltage on high/low relay connector ignition feed circuit (Dark Blue wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Dark Blue wire between relay and fuse No. 10 on fuse/junction block. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, connect jumper wire between common drive circuit (Light Green/Black wire) and high speed output circuit (Red/Yellow wire) on high/low wiper relay cavities. If wipers operate properly in high speed mode, replace high/low wiper motor relay. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
- If wipers do not operate properly in high speed mode, disconnect windshield wiper motor connector. Connector is located on engine compartment firewall, just right of power brake booster. Ensure jumper wire is still connected between common drive circuit (Light Green/Black wire) and high speed output circuit (Red/Yellow wire) on high/low relay cavities. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode, check voltage on wiper motor connector high speed output circuit (Red/Yellow wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Red/Yellow wire between high/low relay and wiper motor. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace windshield wiper motor. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
