TEST 2C - Automatic Door Locks Without Remote Keyless Entry System

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1992 Dodge Dynasty, 1992 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue, 1992 Chrysler New Yorker, and 1992 Chrysler Imperial. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagrams, see appropriate chassis wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS Section.
  1. With DRB-II in voltmeter mode and door lock test still being actuated, gain access to door lock relay. Relay is located behind right side of glove box. See Fig 1. Backprobe Orange/White wire at door lock relay. If voltage does not pulsate between 0 and 12 volts, repair open Orange/White wire. If voltage pulsates between 0 and 12 volts, go to next step.

  2. Backprobe Orange/Black wire at door lock relay. If voltage does not pulsate between 0 and 12 volts, go to step 5). If voltage pulsates between 0 and 12 volts, backprobe Pink/Black wire at door unlock relay.
  3. If voltage does not pulsate between 0 and 12 volts, repair open in Pink/Black wire or Orange/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If voltage pulsates between 0 and 12 volts, stop door lock actuation test using DRB-II. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Remove door lock and unlock relays. See Fig 1.
  4. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Probe Black wire at door unlock relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace door unlock relay. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
  5. If voltage does not pulsate between 0 and 12 volts in step 2), stop door lock actuation test using DRB-II. Backprobe Red wire at door lock relay. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Remove door lock and unlock relays. See Fig 1.
  6. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Probe Black wire of door lock relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, probe Orange/Black wire of door lock relay connector.
  7. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace door lock relay. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/Black wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
