Test 38A - Short In Low Washer Fluid Light Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Check if washer fluid reservoir is full. Add washer fluid as necessary. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If washer fluid reservoir is full, turn ignition on. Wait 60 seconds and observe message center. If low washer fluid light does not come on, go to TEST 38B.
  2. If low washer fluid light comes on, use DRB-II to read washer fluid level switch status. If DRB-II displays WASH FLUID: OK, go to step 5). If DRB-II does not display WASH FLUID: OK, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect washer fluid level switch connector from bottom of washer fluid reservoir. If DRB-II displays WASH FLUID: OK, replace washer fluid level switch. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If DRB-II does not display WASH FLUID: OK, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off and disconnect Body Controller Module (BCM). Module is located behind right kick panel. With DRB-II in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on BCM Gray connector terminal No. 17, washer fluid switch sense circuit (Black/Tan wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Tan wire. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM connectors and turn ignition on. Observe message center. If low washer fluid light comes on, repair short to ground in low washer fluid output circuit (Red wire). Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If low washer fluid light does not come on, replace BCM. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
