Test 36D - Repairing Shorted Liftgate Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Remove liftgate release relay from relay block. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of liftgate release relay output circuit (Light Green/Black wire) at liftgate release relay connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 6). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  2. Check resistance of fuse battery supply circuit (Dark Green/Yellow wire) at liftgate release relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Check resistance of release switch output circuit (Yellow/Black wire) at liftgate release relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace liftgate release relay. Perform TEST VER-1B. If resistance is less than 5 ohms and vehicle is not equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1B. If vehicle is equipped with RKE, go to next step.
NOTE: RKE module may be accessed by carefully prying each end of instrument panel top cover and sliding cover forward to disengage front clips.
  4. Gain access to Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module. RKE module is located under instrument panel top cover, behind information center. Disconnect RKE module connectors. Go to next step.
  5. Check resistance of release switch output circuit (Yellow/Black wire) at liftgate release relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. Perform TEST VER-1B. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire). go to next step.
  6. Disconnect liftgate release solenoid connector. Check resistance of release switch output circuit (Yellow/Black wire) at liftgate release relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace liftgate release solenoid. Perform TEST VER-1B. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire). Perform TEST VER-1B.
