Test 1A - Identifying Vehicle Equipment & System Problems

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  in this article.
  1. Connect DRB to Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using DRB, select BODY SYSTEM.
  2. If DRB does not display BUS OPERATIONAL, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS  in this article. If DRB displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step.
  3. If vehicle is equipped with a Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC), go to next step. Using DRB, select Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC). If DRB displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 48A  . If DRB does not display NO RESPONSE, go to step 5).
  4. Using DRB, select Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC). If DRB displays NO RESPONSE, replace Body Control Module (BCM). Perform TEST VER-1B  . If DRB does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  5. Using DRB, select body computer. If DRB displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 49A  . If DRB does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  6. Using DRB, select compass mini-trip module (if equipped). If DRB displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 50A  . If DRB does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  7. Using DRB, select Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If DRB displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 51A  . If DRB does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  8. Using DRB, read trouble codes. If DRB does not display any trouble code, see DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY table for specific diagnosis. If DRB displays NO VOLTAGE AT PIN 16 OF BODY COMPUTER, go to TEST 49A  . If DRB displays EEPROM CHECKSUM FAILURE, replace BCM. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If DRB displays, WRONG BODY COMPUTER, replace BCM. Perform TEST VER-1B.

(1) When diagnosing a system with many apparent failures, start at top of directory and perform test(s) indicated in order. Make required repairs and perform TEST VER-1B  after each repair.
