Test 44A - Repairing Washer Pump Problem

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR  IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Disconnect washer pump motor connector, located at center of cowl on washer reservoir. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Put DRB in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at washer pump connector terminal No. 1 (Brown wire). With probe connected, engage washers. If voltage is more than 10 volts while engaging washers, go to TEST 44B. If voltage is less than 10 volts while engaging washers, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect washer relay, located in power distribution center in front of left strut tower. See Figure . Measure voltage at washer relay connector terminals "A" and "B" (Dark Blue wires). If voltage is less than 10 volts at each circuit, repair open Dark Blue wires. If voltage is more than 10 volts at each circuit, go to next step.
  3. Reconnect front windshield washer relay. Disconnect right side pod switch connector. See Figure . Check relay connector and clean or repair connector as necessary. Measure voltage at right side pod switch connector terminal No. 4 (Light Blue/Red wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Light Blue/Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at right side pod switch connector terminal No. 6 (Black/Orange wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Orange wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Reconnect washer pump motor connector. Connect jumper wire between right side pod switch connector terminals No. 4 (Light Blue/Red wire) and No. 6 (Black/Orange wire). If washer pump operates with jumper wire connected, replace right pod switch. If washer pump does not operate with jumper wire connected, replace windshield washer relay.
