Test 41B - Repairing Door Lock Problem

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR  IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using DRB, actuate door locks. If doors lock, go to TEST 41C. If doors do not lock, remove and inspect fuse No. 3. See Figure . If fuse is okay, go to step 3). If fuse is open, go to next step.
  2. Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at fuse No. 3 Red wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Red wire between fuse block and lock relay for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 3.
  3. Put DRB in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at fuse No. 3 Red/White wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/White wire between fuse block and power distribution center. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  4. Reinstall fuse No. 3. Gain access to right door lock switch. With switch connected, backprobe Red wire at right door lock switch connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  5. Backprobe Pink/Black wire at right door lock switch connector. Press right door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace right door lock switch. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  6. Gain access to relay center, located under dash, attached to left kick panel. See Figure . Remove Auto Door Lock (ADL) relay. Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at ADL relay connector terminal "E" (Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect right door lock switch connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Orange/Black wire between ADL relay connector terminal "B" and right door lock switch connector terminal No. 4. If resistance is more than 60 ohms, repair open Orange/Black wire. If resistance is less than 60 ohms, replace door lock relay.
