Test 43B - Repairing Intermittent Wiper Problem

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR  IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using DRB, actuate wiper motor. If wipers operate during actuation, go to TEST 43C. If wipers do not operate during actuation, go to next step.
  2. Gain access to Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. Body controller is located behind right kick panel. Put DRB in voltmeter mode. Backprobe BCM Black connector terminal No. 24 (Dark Green/White wire). While probe is connected, actuate wiper motor using DRB. If voltage pulses from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts, go to step 4). If voltage does not pulse from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM Black connector. Check connector condition and clean or repair connector as necessary. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage at BCM Black connector terminal No. 22 (Dark Blue wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM.
  4. If voltage pulses from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts instep 2), turn ignition switch to OFF position. Gain access to right pod switch connector. See Figure . Disconnect and inspect right side pod switch connector. Clean or repair connector as necessary. Go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage at right pod switch connector terminal No. 8 (Dark Green/White wire). If voltage does not pulse from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts, repair open in Dark Green/White wire. If voltage pulses from more than 10 volts to less than 5 volts, replace right wiper switch in switch pod.
