Test 55B - Diagnosing Compass/Temp Module Blank Display

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR  IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position, engine off. If compass/temperature screen is blank, press compass/temperature button once. If compass/temperature screen is not blank, system is okay at this time. If compass/temperature screen is blank, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Gain access to compass/temperature module connector, located behind overhead console. Disconnect compass/temperature module connector. Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black/Light Green wire between compass/temperature module and ground for open to ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Put DRB in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 4 (White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace compass/temperature module.
  4. Remove and inspect fuse No. 5. See Figure . If fuse No. 5 is open, go to next step. If fuse No. 5 is okay, measure voltage at fuse No. 5 connector Black/Orange wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open in fuse No. 5 connector White wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Black/Orange wire.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 4 (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair White wire between compass/temperature module connector and fuse No. 5 for short to ground, and replace fuse. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Reconnect compass/temperature module connector. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 4 (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace compass/temperature module and replace fuse. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 5.
