Test 9A - Repairing Faulty Speedometer

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. If speedometer operates, go to TEST 3A. If speedometer does not operate, turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRB, read engine controller faults. If DRB does not display ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to TEST 56A  . If DRB displays ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to next step.
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Start engine. If vehicle is equipped with traction control, turn traction control system off. On all vehicles, place gear shift lever in Drive. Go to next step.
  3. Using DRB, read Vehicle Speed Signal (VSS) status. If DRB displays increased vehicle speed as vehicle is accelerated, replace body control module. If DRB does not display increased vehicle speed as vehicle is accelerated, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section below.
