Test 55E - Repairing Compass Calibration

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR  IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair. NOTE: For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Calibrate compass/temperature module using following procedure:
    • Locate an area free from magnetic disturbance.
    • Make 3 complete circles in vehicle without stopping.
    • CAL will display during turns.
    • CAL will turn off after third circle.
  2. If compass is correct, repair is complete. If compass is not correct, go to next step.
    CAUTION: Following step should be used ONLY if compass is still faulty after preceding steps.
  3. Use a hand-held degausser to demagnetize vehicle. If compass is now correct, repairs are complete. If compass is not correct, replace compass/temperature module.
