Test 62A - Repairing Check Gauges Lamp Problem
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR
IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Check engine oil level and top off oil as necessary. If oil level is okay, check coolant level. If coolant level is low, add coolant as necessary. If cooling system level is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Observe check gauges warning lamp. If warning lamp is off, go to TEST 62B. If warning lamp is on, start engine. If warning lamp is off after engine is started, go to TEST 62C. If warning lamp is on after engine is started, go to next step.
- Check oil gauge on instrument cluster (if equipped). If oil pressure is low, check engine condition. See 3.0L V6 - VIN [3] article in the ENGINES section. If oil pressure is okay, check cooling system temperature gauge operation and check vehicle for overheating. Repair cooling system as necessary, see ENGINE COOLING FAN article in the ENGINE COOLING section. If vehicle does not have an overheating or temperature gauge problem, go to next step.
- Check charging system. Repair charging system as necessary, see ALTERNATOR & REGULATOR article in the ELECTRICAL section. If charging system is okay, go to next step.
- With engine running, actuate check gauges warning lamp test using DRB. If check gauges warning lamp flashes, system is okay at this time. If check gauges warning lamp does not flash, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Black connector. Body controller is located behind right side kick panel. Check condition of connector and clean or repair connector as necessary. Start engine. Put DRB in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at BCM Black connector terminal No. 23 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace BCM. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Green/Yellow wire.
