Test 102A - Repairing Oil Pressure Sending Unit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.
  1. Check engine oil level, and top off as necessary. If oil level is okay, remove oil pressure sending unit, and connect an oil pressure gauge in its place. Go to next step.
  2. Start engine and check oil pressure reading. If oil pressure is less than 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ) at idle, check engine condition. See appropriate article in ENGINES section. If oil pressure is more than 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ) at idle, go to next step.
  3. Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature and check oil pressure reading. If oil pressure is less than 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ) at idle, check engine condition. See appropriate ENGINES article in the ENGINES section below. If oil pressure is more than 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ) at idle, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove oil pressure test gauge. Reinstall oil pressure sending unit. If instrument cluster is not equipped with an oil gauge, go to TEST 103A. If instrument panel is equipped with an oil pressure gauge, go to TEST 103C.
