Test 98A - Repairing Washer Pump Problem

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Check washer fluid level. Add fluid if necessary. If fluid level is okay, go to next step.
  2. Ensure washer fluid lines and nozzles are undamaged and unrestricted. Repair lines and nozzles as necessary. If lines and nozzles are okay, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect washer pump motor connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on washer pump motor connector (Brown wire). Engage washers while observing scan tool voltage. If voltage is more than 10 volts while engaging washers, go to step 5). If voltage is less than 10 volts while engaging washers, go to next step.
  4. Gain access to multifunction switch connector. Check voltage on multifunction switch connector terminal No. 3 (Brown wire). With probe connected, engage washers. If voltage is more than 10 volts while engaging washers, repair open Brown wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts while engaging washers, replace multifunction switch.
  5. Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of washer pump motor connector (Black wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace washer pump motor.
