No-Start Test
NOTE:
Perform TESTING SPARK AT COIL before proceeding with NO-START TEST.
NOTE:
NO-START TEST checks Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor and Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor.
- Ensure 12.66 volts or more (battery voltage) is available to operate cranking and ignition systems. Disconnect wiring connector from coil pack. Connect a test light between B+ terminal at coil harness connector (Dark Green/Black wire) and ground. See Fig 1 .
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. DO NOT turn ignition switch to OFF position. If test light flashes on and then off, PCM has momentarily energized ASD relay, go to next step. If test light does not flash, ASD relay did not energize, see TESTS W/CODES - 3.8L
article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section to check PCM and ASD relay and circuits.NOTE: If ignition switch was turned to OFF position, turn ignition on and wait for test light to flash on and off before proceeding to step 3).
- Crank engine for 5 seconds. If test light momentarily flashes during cranking, PCM is not receiving a crankshaft position signal. See TESTS W/CODES - 3.8L article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section to check CKP and CMP sensor circuits. If test light does not flash during engine cranking, disconnect CKP sensor connector and go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF and then to ON position. Wait for test light to momentarily flash once then crank engine. If test light flashes once, replace shorted CKP sensor. If test light does not flash, see TESTS W/CODES - 3.8L article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section to check CMP sensor/CKP sensor 8-volt supply or CMP sensor output or ground circuits.
