Test 73C - Open Parking Brake Switch Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see BODY CONTROL COMPUTER  section in this article. Perform TEST VER-1  VERIFICATION TEST after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Connector is located above brake pedal bracket. Connect jumper wire between parking brake switch connector (Gray/Black wire) and chassis ground. If BRAKE warning lamp illuminates, replace parking brake switch. If BRAKE warning lamp does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Leave jumper wire connected. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster Gray connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of instrument cluster Gray connector terminal No. 6 (Gray/Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Gray/Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Remove and inspect BRAKE warning lamp. Replace lamp if necessary. If lamp is okay, repair or replace instrument cluster. See the INSTRUMENT PANEL article.
