CMTC Test 3A - Compass/Mini-Trip Computer Displaying "OC"

NOTE: Perform CMTC TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Drive vehicle at least 3 miles at greater than 25 MPH to update CMTC and perform TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  after each repair.
NOTE: For CMTC wiring diagram, see INSTRUMENT PANEL article in the ACCESSORIES & ELECTRICAL section.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor connector. Sensor is located behind front bumper (right center). Connect jumper wire between connector terminals. Turn ignition on. Observe CMTC display. If CMTC displays SC, replace ambient temperature sensor. If CMTC does not display SC, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect jumper wire. Disconnect CMTC module connector. Connect jumper wires between ground and each terminal of ambient temperature sensor harness connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance at terminal No. 5 (Violet/Light Green wire) on CMTC module harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Violet/Light Green wire between CMTC module and ambient temperature sensor.
  3. With jumper wires still connected, measure resistance at terminal No. 2 (Black/Light Blue wire) on CMTC module connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace CMTC module. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Black/Light Blue wire between CMTC module and ambient temperature sensor.
