Blank Scan Tool Screen

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Check connector for an open, or loose or disconnected terminals. Using an external voltmeter, check voltage at DLC terminal No. 16 (Pink wire). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to step 3).
  2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, remove fuse No. 13 from junction block (located behind end cover at left side of instrument panel). Replace fuse if blown. If fuse blows again, repair DLC battery feed circuit as necessary.
  3. Using an external ohmmeter, check DLC Black wire ground resistance at DLC terminal No. 4. If resistance is 20 ohms or more, repair open DLC ground wire. If resistance is less than 20 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Substitute scan tool cable with a known-good cable. If scan tool screen is no longer blank, scan tool is functioning properly. If scan tool screen is still blank, replace defective scan tool.
