Information Center Test 7A - Service Engine Soon Indicator Light

NOTE: Perform INFORMATION CENTER TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, check for engine performance Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCS). See TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. Repair as needed. If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
  2. If service engine soon light stays constantly illuminated, go to step 6). If light is not illuminated, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Black harness connector. PCM is located beside power distribution center. Turn ignition on. Go to next step.
  3. Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 22 (Black/Pink wire) on Black PCM connector. If service engine light illuminates, replace PCM. If service engine light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  4. Without disconnecting jumper wire, disconnect information center connector. Inspect service engine soon light bulb and socket. Repair or replace as needed. If bulb and socket are okay, go to next step.
  5. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (Black/Pink wire) on information center connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace information center circuit board. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open service engine soon indicator light driver circuit.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Black harness connector. PCM is located beside power distribution center. Turn ignition on. Go to next step.
  7. If service engine soon light is not illuminated, replace PCM. If service engine soon light is illuminated, disconnect information center connector. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (Black/Pink wire) on information center connector. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair service engine soon indicator light driver circuit for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace information center circuit board.
