Test TC-171B: Governor Pressure Solenoid/Trans Relay Circuits

NOTE: This test does not apply to TJ and XJ bodies. Perform TEST TC-171A: GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID/TRANS RELAY CIRCUITS  before proceeding. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For component location and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  1. Turn ignition off. Remove transmission control relay. Inspect transmission control relay connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES  on AB body, or TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION  on all other bodies. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and transmission control relay connector, transmission control relay output circuit (White/Brown wire on AN body; Red wire on BE/BR and DN bodies; Light Blue wire on all other bodies). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in transmission control relay output circuit and perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES  on AB body, or TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION  on all other bodies. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step.
  3. Check resistance of transmission control relay output circuit (White/Brown wire on AN body; Red wire on BE/BR and DN bodies; Light Blue wire on all other bodies) between transmission solenoid connector and transmission relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open transmission control relay circuit and perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES  on AB body, or TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION  on all other bodies. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check voltage on transmission control relay connector, fused B+ circuit (Yellow/White wire on DN body; Light Green wire on ZJ body; Red/White wire on all other bodies). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open fused B+ circuit and perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES  on AB body, or TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION  on all other bodies. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace transmission control relay and perform TEST VER-5A: ROAD TEST FOR OBD-II TROUBLE CODES  on AB body, or TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION  on all other bodies.
