Courtesy Lights On At All Times

  1. Ensure all doors are closed and properly aligned. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM, then BODY COMPUTER. Select INPUTS/OUTPUTS. Observe door and liftgate ajar switch status. Check status of all ajar switches. If scan tool displays any ajar switch status CLOSED, perform appropriate test. See DOOR AJAR SYMPTOM DIRECTORY  table under INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. If scan tool does not display any ajar switch status CLOSED, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect courtesy light relay from junction block. See Figure . If courtesy lights are still illuminated, repair short to voltage in courtesy light relay output circuit (courtesy light relay terminal No. 87). See appropriate wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. If courtesy lights are not illuminated, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 85 at courtesy light relay socket in junction block. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace courtesy light relay.
  4. Disconnect headlight switch. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 85 at courtesy light relay socket in junction block. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/White wire between courtesy light relay and headlight switch 13-pin connector.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Brown/Light Green wire) at headlight switch 13-pin connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace headlight switch.
  6. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Again, measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Brown/Light Green wire) at headlight switch 13-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Green wire between headlight switch and BCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace BCM.
