Diagnostic Tests: Notes

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
NOTE: Before diagnosing an engine performance problem, refer to SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM before proceeding.
NOTE: Before performing any testing procedures, check for any related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs).
NOTE: Tests are arranged with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) tests followed by No Trouble Code (NTC) tests, No Start (NS) tests and concluding with Verification (VER) tests.
NOTE: When Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is replaced, PCM must be reprogrammed. For PCM programming, see POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING.
NOTE: On 4.7L, if Transmission Control Module (TCM) is replaced, perform shift quality quick learn procedure. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE: Self-diagnostic tests are written specifically for Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool. A generic scan tool may not be capable of performing all necessary test functions.
NOTE: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel and uses three 32-pin connectors which are referred to as connectors C1, C2 and C3. See Figure .
NOTE: If using a generic scan tool or using DRBIII scan tool in generic scan tool mode, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may stop communications with scan tool. This applies to vehicles with a build date prior to 11-30-99. It may appear that sensor values are not updating on generic scan tool. This condition may occur at any time during communications between PCM and generic scan tool. If this condition occurs, see technical service bulletin No. 08-39-99 for recommended repair procedure.
