VTSS Indicator Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Dodge Ram Wagon and 2000 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform VTSS VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
NOTE:
Unless instructed otherwise in test step, reconnect any previously disconnected components and connectors.
- While observing SECURITY light on instrument cluster, turn ignition on. If SECURITY light illuminates momentarily, go to next step. If SECURITY light does not illuminate momentarily, go to step 5.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) C2 White connector. Remove instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - RAM VAN & RAM WAGON article. Disconnect instrument cluster C1 Green connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster C1 connector terminal No. 8, VTSS indicator driver circuit (Yellow/Orange wire). See Figure. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Orange wire. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, leave CTM C2 White connector and instrument cluster C1 connector disconnected, and go to next step.
- Using external ohmmeter, check resistance of VTSS indicator driver circuit (Yellow/Orange wire) between CTM C2 White connector terminal No. 8 and instrument cluster C1 connector terminal No. 8. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave CTM C2 White connector and instrument cluster C1 connector disconnected, and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Yellow/Orange wire.
- Turn ignition on. Using an external voltmeter, check voltage on VTSS indicator driver circuit (Yellow/Orange wire) between CTM C2 White connector terminal No. 8 and instrument cluster C1 connector terminal No. 8. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in Yellow/Orange wire. If voltage is one volt or less, replace CTM.
- Turn ignition off. Gain access to back of instrument cluster. Remove and inspect SECURITY light bulb and socket. Repair or replace SECURITY light bulb and/or socket as necessary. If SECURITY light bulb and socket are okay, go to next step.
- Using wiring diagram as a guide, determine if correct voltage or ground is present at instrument cluster inputs. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Also see appropriate wiring diagram in GROUND DISTRIBUTION and POWER DISTRIBUTION articles in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Repair ground or voltage inputs at instrument cluster as necessary. If ground and correct voltage is present at instrument cluster inputs, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - RAM VAN & RAM WAGON article.
NOTE:
Instrument cluster has several hard-wired inputs. These inputs provide either voltage or ground to cluster.
