Decklid Release Solenoid Output Failure

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear Body Control Module (BCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Press decklid release switch several times. Using scan tool, retrieve BCM DTCs. If this DTC resets, go to next step. If this DTC does not reset, problem is intermittent.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect decklid release solenoid/ajar switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/White wire) at decklid release solenoid/ajar switch harness connector. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM from back of junction block. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/White wire) at decklid release solenoid/ajar switch harness connector. If test light does not illuminate, replace BCM. If test light illuminates, repair short to voltage in Black/White wire between decklid release solenoid/ajar switch and BCM.
  4. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at decklid release solenoid/ajar switch harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between decklid release solenoid/ajar switch and ground.
  5. Connect a test light between terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 3 (Black/White wire) at decklid release solenoid/ajar switch harness connector. Observe test light while pressing decklid release switch. If test light does not illuminate when switch is pressed, go to next step. If test light illuminates when switch is pressed, replace decklid release solenoid/ajar switch.
  6. Disconnect BCM from back of junction block. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/White wire) at decklid release solenoid/ajar switch harness connector. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/White wire between decklid release solenoid/ajar switch and BCM.
  7. Measure resistance in Black/White wire between terminal No. 3 at decklid release solenoid/ajar switch harness connector and terminal No. 8 at BCM connector on back of junction block. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace BCM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire between decklid release solenoid/ajar switch and BCM.
