Wiper Erratic Operation In Intermittent Speeds

  1. Replace wiper high/low relay in power distribution center with known-good unit. Turn ignition on. Operate wipers in all speeds. If wipers do not operate properly, go to next step. If wipers operate properly, replace wiper high/low relay.
  2. Turn wipers off. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C3. Disconnect wiper motor harness connector. Measure resistance in Tan/Red wire between terminal No. 4 at wiper motor harness connector and terminal No. 3 at BCM harness connector C3. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Red wire between wiper motor and BCM.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Tan/Red wire) at BCM harness connector C3. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Tan/Red wire between wiper motor and BCM.
  4. Connect BCM harness connector C3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor wiper park switch status. Using a fused jumper wire, momentarily ground and terminal No. 4 (Tan/Red wire) at wiper motor harness connector while observing scan tool display. If wiper park switch input changes on scan tool, replace wiper motor. If wiper park switch input does not change on scan tool, replace BCM.
