Compass/Mini-Trip Computer inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Inspect fuse No. 11 (10-amp), located in instrument panel junction block. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire between White 12-pin instrument panel junction block connector C5 terminal No. 5 and overhead console connector terminal No. 6. See Fig 1 . See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Repair as necessary.
  2. Disconnect overhead console electrical connector. See COMPASS/MINI-TRIP COMPUTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at overhead console connector terminal No. 6 (Dark Blue wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check for open in Dark Blue/White wire between White 12-pin instrument panel junction block connector C5 terminal No. 5 and overhead console connector terminal No. 6. See Fig 1 . See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Repair as necessary.
  3. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and overhead console connector terminal No. 12 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace and program CMTC. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Green wire between overhead console connector terminal No. 12 and ground. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
