Liftgate Ajar Circuit Open (Durango)

  1. Disconnect Black 2-pin liftgate ajar switch connector, located in center of rear liftgate. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe liftgate ajar switch Black/Light Green wire terminal. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black/Light Green wire between Black 2-pin liftgate ajar switch connector and ground. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire between liftgate ajar switch connector Tan/Black wire and Black/Light Green wire terminals. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), under lower left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Select INPUTS/OUTPUTS, then LIFTGATE AJAR SW. If scan tool displays liftgate ajar switch status as CLOSED, replace liftgate ajar switch assembly. See LIFTGATE AJAR SWITCH ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If scan tool displays liftgate ajar switch status as OPEN, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Gray 16-pin Central Timer Module (CTM) connector C2. CTM is located behind left side kick panel. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Tan/Black wire between Gray 16-pin CTM connector C2 terminal No. 7 and liftgate ajar switch connector. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Black wire between Gray 16-pin CTM connector C2 terminal No. 7 and liftgate ajar switch connector.
