Horn Relay Control Shorted To Battery

  1. Remove horn relay from instrument panel junction block. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Substitute horn relay with known-good relay. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), under lower left side of instrument panel. Using scan tool, record and erase DTCs. Press horn button several times. Using scan tool, retrieve any DTCs. If scan tool displays HORN RELAY CONTROL SHORTED TO BATTERY, go to next step. If scan tool does not display HORN RELAY CONTROL SHORTED TO BATTERY, replace horn relay.
  2. Remove horn relay. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) connectors. CTM is located behind left side kick panel. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at horn relay cavity No. 85 (Black/Red wire). If one volt or more exists, repair short to voltage in Black/Red wire between horn relay cavity No. 85 and horn switch. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If less than one volt exists, replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
