Front Washer Motor Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect front washer motor connector. Turn ignition on. Connect test light between front washer motor connector terminals. If test light illuminates when activating front washer motor, replace front washer motor. If test light does not illuminate when activating front washer motor, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe front washer motor connector Black wire terminal. If test light illuminates when activating front washer motor, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate when activating front washer motor, repair open in Black wire between front washer motor connector terminal No. 2 and ground. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Reconnect front washer motor connector. Disconnect Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector. See Figure . Connect fused jumper wire between Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminals No. 18 (Dark Blue wire) and No. 19 (Brown wire). See Figure . Turn ignition on. If front washer motor operates, replace multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If front washer motor does not operate, go to next step.
  4. Using test light connected to ground, probe Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 18 (Dark Blue wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check fuse No. 5 (20-amp) located in instrument panel junction block. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . If fuse No. 5 is okay, repair open in Dark Blue wire between Brown 11-pin instrument panel junction block connector C8 terminal No. 6 and Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 18. See Figure . If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Dark Blue wire between Brown 11-pin instrument panel junction block connector C8 terminal No. 6 and Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 18. Repair as necessary.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) connectors. CTM is located behind left side kick panel. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Brown wire between Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 19 and Gray 26-pin CTM connector C1 terminal No. 15. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown wire between Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 19 and Gray 26-pin CTM connector C1 terminal No. 15.
  6. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Brown wire between Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 12 and front washer motor connector terminal No. 1. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown wire between Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 12 and front washer motor connector terminal No. 1.
  7. Replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
