Front Wiper High Speed Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector. See Figure . Connect fused jumper wire between Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminals No. 18 (Dark Blue wire) and No. 16 (Red/Gray wire). See Figure . Turn ignition on. If front wiper high speed operates, replace multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If front wiper high speed does not operate, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire between Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 4 and ground. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Using test light connected to ground, probe Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 18 (Dark Blue wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check fuse No. 5 (20-amp) located in instrument panel junction block. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . If fuse No. 5 is okay, repair open in Dark Blue wire between Brown 11-pin instrument panel junction block connector C8 terminal No. 6 and Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 18. See Figure . If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Dark Blue wire between Brown 11-pin instrument panel junction block connector C8 terminal No. 6 and Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 18. Repair as necessary.
  4. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Red/Gray wire between Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 16 and Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 6. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Gray wire between Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 16 and Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 6.
  5. Replace front wiper motor. See appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article.
