Front Wiper Park Switch Sense Circuit High

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), under lower left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Turn ignition off. Wait 15 seconds. Turn ignition on. Operate front wiper system in all modes. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays FRONT WIPER PARK SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT HIGH, go to next step. If scan tool does not display FRONT WIPER PARK SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT HIGH, problem is intermittent. Visually inspect and wiggle test related wiring.
  2. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Turn ignition off. Wait 15 seconds. Turn ignition on. Remove front wiper relay from power distribution center, located in left side of engine compartment, near battery. See Figure . Substitute front wiper relay with a known-good relay. Operate front wiper system in all modes. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays FRONT WIPER PARK SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT HIGH, go to next step. If scan tool does not display FRONT WIPER PARK SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT HIGH, replace front wiper relay.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Set front wipers to park position. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance of park switch between front wiper motor terminals No. 2 and 4. See Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace front wiper motor. See appropriate WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article.
  4. Turn ignition off. Set front wipers to intermittent position. Disconnect Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector. See Figure . Using DVOM, measure resistance between multifunction switch terminals No. 14 and 17. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Violet wire between Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 5 and Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminals No. 15 and 17. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Violet wire between Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 5 and Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminals No. 15 and 17.
  6. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Yellow wire between Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 and Gray 12-pin Central Timer Module (CTM) connector C3 terminal No. 10. See Figure .
  7. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) connectors. CTM is located behind left side kick panel. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Dark Green/Yellow wire between Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 and Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 10. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Yellow wire between Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 and Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 10.
  8. Remove front wiper relay. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Dark Green/Yellow wire between Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 11 and front wiper relay cavity No. 87A. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Yellow wire between Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 11 and front wiper relay cavity No. 87A.
  9. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Red/Black wire between Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 14 and front wiper relay cavity No. 30. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Black wire between Gray 20-pin multifunction switch connector terminal No. 14 and front wiper relay cavity No. 30.
  10. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If 5 volts or less exist, go to next step. If more than 5 volts exist, repair short to voltage in Dark Green/Yellow wire between Black 6-pin front wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 and Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 10.
  11. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at front wiper relay cavity No. 87A (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If 5 volts or less exist, go to next step. If more than 5 volts exist, repair short to voltage in Dark Green/Yellow wire between front wiper relay cavity No. 87A and Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 11.
  12. Replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
