Front Wiper Relay Control Circuit Short To Ground
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), under lower left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Turn ignition off, then on. Wait 15 seconds. Operate front wiper system in all modes. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays FRONT WIPER RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display FRONT WIPER RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, problem is intermittent. Visually inspect and wiggle test related wiring.
- Turn ignition off. Remove front wiper relay from power distribution center, located in left side of engine compartment, near battery. See Figure . Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) connectors. CTM is located behind left side kick panel. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Dark Green wire). See Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Yellow/Dark Green wire between Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 7 and front wiper relay cavity No. 85.
- Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Turn ignition off. Substitute front wiper relay with a known-good relay. Turn ignition on. Operate front wiper system in all modes. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays FRONT WIPER RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If scan tool does not display FRONT WIPER RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace front wiper relay.
