Powertrain Control Module Verification Test
- Inspect vehicle to ensure that all components are properly installed and connected. Reconnect all previously disconnected components and connectors. Inspect engine oil for contamination. If engine oil is contaminated, change engine oil and filter. If PCM has been replaced, go to next step. If PCM has not been replaced, go to step 4 .
- If PCM has been replaced and correct VIN and mileage have not been programmed, a DTC will be set in Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) and Air Bag Control Module (ACM). If vehicle is equipped with Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must be updated to enable engine to start.
- For ACM and CAB systems, connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, enter correct VIN and mileage into PCM. Erase DTCs in ACM and CAB systems. For SKIM, use scan tool and select THEFT ALARM, SKIM, MISCELLANEOUS. Place SKIM in secured access mode by using appropriate PIN code for this vehicle. Select UPDATE SECRET KEY DATA. Data will be transferred from SKIM to PCM.
- Attempt to start engine. If engine starts and stays running, repair is complete. If engine is unable to start or any DTCs or symptoms remain, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION and SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION tables under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
