Removal (Neon)
- Fuel pump module is located at corner of fuel tank. See Figure. Manufacturer states fuel pump module may be serviced by just lowering fuel tank.
- Release fuel pressure from fuel system. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Raise and support vehicle.
- Ensure negative battery cable is disconnected. Remove fuel tank cap to release any residual fuel tank pressure. Remove cap from fuel tank drain. Fuel tank drain is located on top of fuel tank, near filler tube. See Figure.
- Install siphon hose in fuel tank drain. Siphon gasoline into an approved gasoline container until fuel tank is empty. Disconnect fuel line from fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator on fuel pump module using proper procedure for fuel line disconnect fitting. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS .
- Slide lock on fuel pump module harness connector lock to UNLOCK position. Push downward on harness connector retainer and pull harness connector from fuel pump module.
- Support fuel tank with transmission jack. Remove fuel tank straps. Slightly lower fuel tank for access to fuel pump module.CAUTION: When removing fuel pump module from fuel tank, use care, as reservoir on fuel pump module may still contain some gasoline.
- Ensure area around fuel pump module is clean. Using Fuel Pump Module Lock Nut Spanner Wrench (6856), remove fuel pump module lock nut. See Figure. Reservoir on fuel pump module may still contain some gasoline. Remove fuel pump module from fuel tank. Remove "O" ring from sealing area on shoulder of fuel tank.
