Vehicle Theft Alarm Indicator Output Short
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform VTSS VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs. Turn ignition off. Wait approximately 10 seconds. Turn ignition on. Recheck for FCM DTCs. If VTA INDICATOR OUTPUT SHORT resets, go to next step. If VTA INDICATOR OUTPUT SHORT does not reset, system is okay at this time. Check for intermittent poor connections or faulty circuits. See ANTI-THEFT in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Locate and disconnect BCM connector C4. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and BCM connector C4 terminal No. 8 (Violet/White wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect instrument panel message center connector located above instrument cluster on instrument panel. Instrument cluster will need to be removed for access. See Figure. For removal and installation procedure, see REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Violet/White wire between message center connector terminal No. 4 and BCM connector C4 terminal No. 8. See Figure. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace message center. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Violet/White wire.
