Rear Wiper Output Short To Ground
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition on. Turn rear wiper on. If rear wiper operates, go to next step. If rear wiper does not operate, go to step 3.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase Body Control Module (BCM) and Front Control Module (FCM) DTCs. Turn ignition off. Conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time. Check for related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). Check for faulty circuits while wiggling connectors and harness. Check for intermittent poor connections or faulty circuits and repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Locate and disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C2. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . See Figure. Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. See Figure. Rear liftgate door panel will need to be removed to access connector. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in WIPER/WASHER SYSTEMS article. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Light Green wire). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Green wire between rear wiper motor and BCM connector C2 terminal No. 32.
- Reconnect rear wiper motor connector. Connect a 20-amp fused jumper between battery voltage and BCM connector C2 terminal No. 32 (Brown/Light Green wire). If wiper motor does not operate, replace wiper motor. If fuse jumper blows, wiper motor is internally shorted. Replace wiper motor. If wiper motor operates, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
