Sentry Key Immobilizer System
With the SKIS, an electronically coded ignition key sends a signal through the Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) to other modules on the PCI Bus. If a valid signal is received by the PCM, vehicle will start and continue to run. If the signal is invalid, the vehicle will start and run for 2 seconds, then shut off. After six unsuccessful attempts at starting, the SKIS will shut down until a valid key is used. If vehicle is equipped with SKIS, ignition key will have a Gray molded rubber cap. Models not equipped with SKIS will have a Black molded rubber cap on the head of the ignition key. For additional information on SKIM and SKIS, see appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
