Electric Radiator Fan Motor Operation With No DTC (JTEC)

NOTE: For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For connector identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For circuit identification and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components.
  1. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. Using DRB-III(R), actuate the RADIATOR FAN RELAY TEST. Check radiator fan operation. If radiator fan cycles on and off, no problem is indicated at this time. Stop all actuations. Test is complete. If radiator fan does not cycle on and off, stop all actuations and go to next step.
  2. Using DRB-III(R), actuate RADIATOR FAN RELAY TEST. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, backprobe Radiator Fan Relay Output circuit at Radiator Fan Motor harness connector. If test light flashes on and off, go to next step. If test light does not flash on and off, go to step  5 .
  3. Turn the ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and Radiator Fan Motor harness connector ground circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Radiator Fan Motor ground circuit. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-2 (JTEC)  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. There are no possible causes remaining, replace the Radiator Fan Motor. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-2 (JTEC)  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Turn the ignition off. Remove Radiator Fan Relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe Fused B+ Output circuit at PDC harness connector. If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair open in Fused B+ Output circuit. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-2 (JTEC)  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Measure resistance of Radiator Fan Relay Output circuit between Radiator Fan Relay harness connector and Radiator Fan Motor harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Radiator Fan Relay Output circuit for an open. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-2 (JTEC)  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. There are no possible causes remaining, replace the Radiator Fan Relay. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-2 (JTEC)  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
