Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable. Wait 2 minutes before proceeding for air bag system capacitor to discharge. Reach under the left end of the instrument panel to access and unsnap the rod end clip on the park brake release link and disengage the link from the handle. Remove 3 screws that secure the lower edge of the steering column opening cover to the instrument panel structural support.
  2. Using a trim stick, gently pry the upper edge of the steering column opening cover on each side of the steering column away from the instrument panel far enough to disengage each of the snap clip retainers from their receptacles in the instrument panel base trim. Remove the steering column opening cover from the instrument panel.
  3. On models equipped with tilt steering wheel, remove the tilt steering column knob. On all models, remove the outboard screws that secure the upper shroud to the lower shroud. Release the snap fasteners that secure the upper shroud to the lower shroud. Remove the upper shroud from the lower shroud. Remove the center screw that secures the lower shroud to the steering column lock housing. Remove the lower shroud from the steering column.
  4. Disconnect SKIM harness connector. Remove SKIM-to-steering column lock housing retaining screw. Disengage SKIM antenna ring from around ignition lock cylinder housing. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten SKIM-to-steering column lock housing retaining screw and steering column shroud retaining screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Using the DRBIII(R), reprogram SKIM. See SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER MODULE  under PROGRAMMING.
