Using Generic Scan Tool

- Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions and procedures. Generic scan tools may not have ability to measure voltage, resistance or continuity. When instructed, use of an additional DVOM may be required.
- Using scan tool, read DTCs. Does the scan tool display any DTCs? If yes, go to appropriate procedure for DTC(s) displayed. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are present, identify customer complaint and diagnose by symptom(s) present. See SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION . When diagnosing a system with many apparent problems, a sequence of tests may be required. After repairs, ensure all problems or failures have been corrected. Perform appropriate verification test. See VERIFICATION TESTS .
