Compass Calibration

Automatic Calibration Procedure -  The self-calibrating feature of the compass eliminates the need to calibrate the compass under normal conditions. During a short initial period, the compass may appear erratic and the CAL symbol will appear on the CMTC display. The CAL symbol may also appear after the vehicle is subjected to a high level of magnetism. To automatically calibrate the compass, drive vehicle through 3 complete circles at about 5 MPH in an area free from large metal or metallic objects, the CAL symbol will turn off and the compass will function normally.

Manual Compass Calibration Procedure -  If during a short initial period, the compass appears erratic but the CAL symbol does not appear on the CMTC display, the compass must be manually calibrated. Find an open area free from large metal or metallic objects. Turn ignition on. If compass/temperature data is not currently being displayed, momentarily depress and release STEP button to step through display options until you have reached compass/temperature display. Depress and hold RESET button for approximately 10 seconds until CAL is displayed. Release button. Drive vehicle through 3 complete circles at about 5 MPH. the CAL symbol will turn off and the compass will be calibrated.
