Blend/Mode/Recirculation Door Operation Improper

Possible Causes:

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE: Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.
NOTE: For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For terminal identification, see appropriate illustration under CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . For component removal and installation procedures, see appropriate component under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .
NOTE: All Actuator circuit and Overcurrent DTCs must be diagnosed and repaired before diagnosing Calibration symptoms.

Testing:

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), select HVAC, SYSTEM, then actuate the Actuator Circuit Test. Does the DRBIII(R) display any Actuator Circuit Test DTCs? If yes, perform appropriate DTC test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no, go to next step.
  2. Using the DRBIII(R), read active HVAC DTCs. Does the DRBIII(R) display any active HVAC DTCs? If yes, perform appropriate DTC test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no, go to next step.
  3. Using the DRBIII(R), select HVAC, SYSTEM, then actuate the HVAC Door Recalibration Test. Does the DRBIII(R) display any HVAC Door Recalibration Test DTCs? If yes, perform appropriate DTC test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no, go to next step.
  4. For which door was fault reported?
    • If Mode Door, go to next step.
    • If Passenger Blend Door, go to step  6 .
    • If Driver Blend Door, go to step  7 .
    • If Recirculation Door, go to step  8 .
    • If Rear Mode Door, go to step  9 .
    • If Rear Blend Door, go to step  10 .
  5. Start the engine. Turn Blower Control to high speed. Turn Mode Select Control to each door position for at least 30 seconds and check for airflow from the corresponding vents. Does air flow from the correct vents for each door position? If yes, test is complete. If no, remove Door Actuator from A/C-Heater Housing assembly. By hand, attempt to rotate the Door Actuator in both directions. Also, inspect for disconnected, missing or broken Door Actuator Linkage. Repair as necessary. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Start the engine. Turn Blower Control to high speed. Turn Mode Control to the Panel position. Turn Passenger Blend Control to the full hot position. Turn Passenger Blend Control to the full cold position in 25 percent increments, while checking for a change in airflow air temperature coming from the Passenger Panel Vents. Does airflow air temperature change with respect to position of the Blend Control? If yes, test is complete. If no, remove Door Actuator from A/C-Heater Housing assembly. By hand, attempt to rotate the Door Actuator in both directions. Also, inspect for disconnected, missing or broken Door Actuator Linkage. Repair as necessary. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. Start the engine. Turn Blower Control to high speed. Turn Mode Control to the Panel position. Turn Driver Blend Control to the full hot position. Turn Driver Blend Control to the full cold position in 25 percent increments, while checking for a change in airflow air temperature coming from the Driver Panel Vents.
  8. Start the engine. Turn the Blower Control to high speed. Turn Mode Control to the Panel position. Turn Mode Select Control to MAX panel position. The sound of the air flowing through the ducts should get louder as the Recirculation Door opens to bring in recirculated air. Does the sound of the airflow get louder after turning the Mode Control to MAX panel position? If yes, test is complete. If no, remove Door Actuator from A/C-Heater Housing assembly. By hand, attempt to rotate the Door Actuator in both directions. Also, inspect for disconnected, missing or broken Door Actuator Linkage. Repair as necessary. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  9. Start the engine. Turn Rear Blower Control on the A/C-Heater Control Module to the Rear Control position. Turn Rear Blower Control on the A/C-Heater Control Module to high speed. Turn Rear Blend Control to the full cold position and check for airflow from the corresponding vents. Turn Rear Blend Control to the full hot position and check for airflow from the corresponding vents. Does air flow from the correct vents for each door position? If yes, test is complete. If no, remove Door Actuator from Rear A/C-Heater Housing assembly. By hand, attempt to rotate the Door Actuator in both directions. Also, inspect for disconnected, missing or broken Door Actuator Linkage. Repair as necessary. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  10. Start the engine. Turn Rear Blower Control on the A/C-Heater Control Module to the Rear Control position. Turn Rear Blower Control on the A/C-Heater Control Module to high speed. Turn Rear Blend Control to the full cold position. Turn Rear Blend Control to the full hot position in 25 percent increments, while checking for a change in airflow air temperature coming from the vents. Does airflow air temperature change with respect to position of the Blend Control? If yes, test is complete.
