Front Wiper Relay Control Circuit Short To Ground

When Monitored:

Ignition on. Front Wipers in intermittent mode.

Set Condition:

This DTC will set if CTM detects a short to ground on the Front Wiper Relay Control circuit.

Possible Causes:

Intermittent wiring and connections.
Front Wiper Relay Control circuit short to ground.
Front Wiper Relay.
CTM.

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.

NOTE: Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false DTCs or error messages may occur.

For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS . For component removal and installation procedures, see appropriate component under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .

Testing:

Turn ignition off. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), erase DTCs. Cycle the ignition off, then on, leaving ignition on for at least 15 seconds. Operate front wiper system in all modes. Using the DRBIII(R), read DTCs. Does this DTC reset? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 4 .
Turn ignition off. Remove Front Wiper Relay from PDC. Disconnect CTM harness connectors. Measure resistance between ground and CTM C3 harness connector terminal No. 7. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, repair the Wiper Relay Control circuit for a short to ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), erase DTCs. Turn ignition off. Substitute a known-good relay in place of Front Wiper Relay in the PDC. Turn ignition on. Operate front wiper system in all modes. Using the DRBIII(R), read DTCs. Does this DTC reset? If yes, replace CTM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, replace Front Wiper Relay. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
The conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time. Problem may be intermittent. Visually inspect related wiring harnesses for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires. Visually inspect related harness connectors for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals. Wiggle related wiring harnesses while checking for shorts or open circuits. Repair as necessary. After repair, perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
